Who hasn’t experienced it yet : you have plans, are going on a trip or just want to go somewhere, and the weather plays into your hands.
Amsterdam is a typical place for such situations, as the weather here can be unpredictable.
Of course, “bad weather” depends on own preferences – some people don’t like rain, others don’t like the heat – but it’s always a pity if the day can’t go as planned because of the weather.
However, this makes it even more important to be prepared and to know what the weather is like at your destination. In this blog, we will therefore tell you something about the climate in our beautiful city.
The average temperature over the year is 10.7°C. If you look at a climate chart of Amsterdam, you will see that the temperature curve is very hilly. The warmest month is July, with about 18°C, and the coldest month is February with an average of about 4°C, but in summer ,the temperature can sometimes rise to around 30°C!
You’ve probably also heard that Amsterdam has a reputation for being very rainy. There is indeed some truth to this: the total precipitation is 844mm per year. If you’re heading to the Dutch capital for the warm temperatures in July, be prepared that this is the month with the highest precipitation rate. Up to 90mm of rain falls here, compared to around 56mm in April.
If you like heat but not wet weather, we can recommend visiting Amsterdam at the end of spring or in August. Unfortunately, you can never promise that the weather will be perfect during this time. Sometimes we have two weeks of bright sun and heat and then suddenly two weeks with daily rain and cold temperatures. Every now and then you can even experience all four seasons in one day. So, no matter when you are going to come to Amsterdam, be prepared for anything and don’t forget to bring an umbrella and your raincoat, because in the end, it’s better to have it but don’t use it instead of needing it.
