What’s better than exploring Amsterdam in a way where you don’t have to spend any money? We made you a list with free things to do in Amsterdam. Take a look at it & even better: take a look in Amsterdam with our recommendations!
1. Free walking tour (360 Amsterdam tours)
Of course our first recommendation is one of our great Free Tours. We offer Free Tours every day in English and Spanish. During this 2-hour walking tour you can discover Amsterdam and its historical center. Visit our office at Dam Square or look for the guides with the orange umbrellas 15 minutes before one of our free tours starts!
Spanish: 11am, 1pm, 4 pm | English: 11am, 1 pm, 3 pm
2. Free ferry + NDSM-Werf
The ferries behind the central station of Amsterdam are for free. You have different directions to go to, but the NDSM-Werf is really worth seeing. Here you can find lots of art-linked aspects. Think about graffiti, an abandoned shipyard, boats and trams. Discover a different side of Amsterdam!
For the timetable of the ferries take a look at: http://maps.gvb.nl/en/lijnen/905
3. The bridge with a view of 15 bridges
With lots of canals in the city center, it is naturally that you will find lots of bridges as well. There is one special bridge, which gives you the view of 14 other bridges at that one specific spot. Come here at night to experience the romantic atmosphere of all those bridges and lights.
You find this bridge in between the overlap of the Reguliersgracht and the Herengracht (next to Rembrandtplein, at the Thorbeckeplein).
4. OBA Public Library
This public library of Amsterdam offers you a great view of the city.
This library, with its seven floors and more than 600 computers, […]

The Kalverstraat in Amsterdam is located parallel to the Rokin. A busy shopping street that has quickly become the most expensive in all of the Netherlands. In fact, back in 2009, it was rated as the 17th most expensive street in the world measured by rent prices! If you find that boutique shops at Leidsestraat aren’t exactly your type of favorite shopping experience and you prefer more retail chain stores and higher end stores, then Kalverstraat is definitely the place for you!
Beginning at Dam Square and ending roughly 750 meters down near the Munttoren Tower, the street is long enough to enjoy nearly an entire day of Amsterdam Shopping experience. The street is about one kilometer long and has 15 side streets. With a location right in the heart of the city, it is easily accessible by public transport, however, chances are that you can simply walk there if your accommodation is nearby.
Enjoy a morning of visiting one of the many cafes located on the street and once the other shopping stores open, get your day started and ready to fill your bags with new clothes, jewelry and of course shoes! In between shopping, check out the several fantastic national monuments like Amsterdam Museum, that are located there and before you know it, your entire day will have been spent wandering around this famous shopping street!

“When all currents suddenly appear in a different direction to go on than you can keep your own stiff target or chasing you decide to catch the wind and thermals you can cruise to the unknown … ‘. The latter is exactly what Fridolin Line has done. The songs she wrote during this period resulted in the album Catching Currents which comes out October 30 on V2 Records. A cinematic album that the boundaries between dreamy folk, electronica, jazz, singer / songwriter and broken beats blurs and merges into catchy songs.
In 2011 Fridolin Line brings with her band Finn Silver debut Crossing the Rubicon off. The album is a success in the Netherlands and Japan, and performances at leading festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival and Billboard Live Tokyo follow. iTunes Finn Silver calls that year to Breakthrough Jazz Artist. Besides Finn Silver Line makes Fridolin member of Ladies of the Lowlands, she toured internationally with the British jazz band Kairos 4tet and leads monthly vocal sessions in the North Sea Jazz Club in Amsterdam.
It was 2013 when Fridolin Line again start writing. She gets in touch with songwriters Danny Fisher and Dave Austin and writes them on the idyllic British countryside the majority of its songs. With a top band consisting of drummer Richard Spaven (Jose James, Flying Lotus), keyboardist Grant Windsor (Gregory Porter, Jose James), Danny Fisher and David Austin on acoustic guitar and Alex Bonfanti at (synth) bass Fridolin Line takes her new songs in the Aviary Studio in London. In Berlin, the vocals are recorded and the album with Axel Reinemer been mixed in his Jazzanova […]
Anti-Flag – Melkweg Amsterdam
The punk veterans Anti-Flag are now more than 20 years working to oppose the injustice in the world and the songs of the band are full of political messages. On their most recent album ‘American Spring’, which was brought out in May this year, this is not different. Musically Anti-Flag remains therefore as punk as it can be and the songs sound catchy, fast and hard. Live sound they still strong. Prepare yourself also to sing along in a tough evening with classics like “The Press Corpse,” “Turn Coat”, “Die For Your Government ‘,’ Welcome to 1984 ‘or the latest’ Brandenburg Gate ft. Tim Armstrong.
If supports are the Oklahoma punk rockers Red City Radio, from the Newcastle coming punks Trophy Eyes and the folksy one man band The Homeless Gospel Choir (aka Derek Zanetti) with Pittsburgh.
