Must do in Amsterdam: Go Culinary Hunting!

Dear Amsterdam Fans,

We like to see that you found this blog about our new food tours.

The covid-19 pandemic is still making life very difficult. That is why it was even more important to us, to create an exciting new product that you can still experience even though corona is still around. Especially now, where the weather improves from day to day!

So why not put our new Food tour on your bucket list? And if you still need any other inspiration on how to spend a day in Lockdown, you can find it here .

But what exactly is this “Food Tour”?

You go on a culinary treasure hunt for the best and trendiest places in the neighbourhoods of the Nine Streets or Jordaan. There is no guide this time, it is all about you and the delicious bites.

The Nine Streets are well known for their beautiful houses, authentic stores and special restaurants and cafés. You may ask yourself: Why are they called “the Nine Streets”? Well, 3 x 3 Streets = 9 Streets in total.  During Amsterdam’s golden age, the 17th century, the old area of the city within the Singel bursted out of its seams. So, the city decided to build a ring of canals and like that, the Heren-, Keizers- en Prinsengracht did arise and were connected by side-streets.

The Jordaan area contains everything that you would normally see on a postcard from Amsterdam: beautiful canals, small streets, and old houses. Also, you can find a lot of famous sights in this area, such as the Anne Frank House.  Why the neighborhood is called “Jordaan” is still discussed: Some say the area got its name from the river “Jordan”, which is located in Israel, others say that it is related to the French word “Jardin” which means “Garden”. They base their statement on the fact that a lot of streets within the area are named after plants or herbs, like Rozengracht or Bloemengracht. But what we know for sure: in the Jordaan you can also find a lot of nice restaurants, bar or cafés!

Some of them you’ll visit in the tour, which is operated like this:

At your first stop you are going to receive directions that will take you from one place to the next one while giving you some special information about the current spot. But instead of making it easy for you and just giving you the address, you have to solve a riddle or follow a route description to find the next stop. This is a lot of fun when doing it with family, friends, or the partner!

Of course, we will not reveal anything about the locations yet. But we all tested them and know that it’s definitely going to be delicious and international, since Amsterdam is a city full of different people and nationalities.  So, you better don’t eat too much for breakfast!
