Beurs van Berlage is a national monument, located at the Damrak (near Dam Square) and Beursplein. Beurs van Berlage was constructed between the years of 1898 and 1903 and has been an important monument of the modern Dutch architecture ever since. The architect in charge of the project was Hendrik Petrus Berlage, a very prominent architect of the 20th century. Although it was formerly the place in which the Amsterdam Stock Exchange took place, due to its growing trade activities and little space, it soon become what it is today: a building used as a concert hall and exhibition center.

As you see above, the Dutch now like to refer to Beurs van Berlage as ‘Palazza Publico’ as it has become somewhat of a public hall for people to hang out in. The Main Hall is spread out over a total of 1600 square meters, making it in fact the largest of its kind in the center of Amsterdam. Making your way throughout the rest of the building, you will find the former Stock Exchange Room of the Beurs has now been turned into a fantastic concert hall with stunning acoustics. This is also the seat of the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra.

Being right in the center of town, it is a fun and great place not to only check out during the day but to keep track of what possible concerts or exhibitions will be taking place during your trip to Amsterdam.
