Bimhuis
Bimhuis
The Bimhuis was opened on the Oude Schans in Amsterdam on October 1, 1974. It became world famous over the years for its many extremely talented and renowned jazz musicians. Some of these names include Chet Baker, Charles Mingus, Bob Berg, Archie Shepp, Kenny Wheeler and Steve Solo just to mention a few. Over the years, the Bimhuis developed into one of the most important settings for jazz in the Netherlands, not just as a concert hall as well as the main meeting place for the Dutch jazz scene. Amsterdam is THE home to one of Europe’s most prominent jazz scenes and was the residence of great names like before mentioned Chet Baker, it only makes sense as to why Bimhuis was set in place and has grown in such great popularity.
The previous building for Bimhuis was located in the Amsterdam historic quarters but as of 2005, the city decided to move it to a brand new location inside the Muziekgebouw complex. Within the building you will find some of the most cutting edge technology, acoustic solutions that create the perfect sound and a just a little over 200 seats for guests.
Whether you fancy jazz music or not, Bimhuis will prove to be an entertaining, educating and fascinating place to pay a visit to and absolutely one for the books. A wide variety of jazz music can be found performing here including new and contemporary sounds by musicians from all corners of the world. Once you are finished with the performance, take advantage of the fantastic restaurant and late night bar on site.
