Travel back to the dark days of World War II on a 2-hour walking tour of Amsterdam, and learn what life was like following the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans in 1940-1945 and how Anne Frank became an icon of the brutality of suppression. Hear the story about her diary and how it came to be published by her father Otto Frank.

Meet your guide close to Waterloo Square. Stroll past monuments and buildings still marked by traces of war. Your guide will bring the history to life, giving you a sense of how the city’s citizens behaved during the occupation, and how they moved around in times of horror.

Learn why the Dutch tried to co-exist with the occupying army, and how the Dutch behaved towards the Jews of Amsterdam like Anne Frank. Hear about several important events, such as the February Strike and Winter of Hunger.

Visit the Jewish neighborhood, with its Portuguese synagoge and museum, the Hollandsche schouwburg, and the head office of the Jewish counsel. Discover locations the Dutch resistance offered as secret hiding places to families like the Franks. The tour ends at Anne Frank’s House, admission is not included.

Ideal for fans of European history, the tour also gives an insight into how the Jewish community lived, survived and still thrive in Amsterdam.
This Anne Frank Walking Tour does NOT include an admission to Anne Frank’s House. The tour starts close to Waterloo Square and ends next to Anne Frank House/Museum, again, we do NOT enter the house. However if you still feel like visiting the Anne Frank House, please retrieve this ticket at the official website of the Anne Frank House (annefrank.org), with a timeslote at least 2 hours after the starting time of this walking tour.

You can reschedule free of charge if you notify us at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time. There are no refunds on cancellations made within 24 hours before the tour starts. If you booked through a booking platform, you must reschedule directly with them.

We participated in an "Anne Frank - Walking Tour" with KATRIEN, who was very pleasant and was an excellent guide. She took us to many interesting sites related to the Ann Frank story. She was very informative and at the end of the tour we knew a lot about the history of Amsterdam, Anne Frank's life and in particular the Jewish persecution.
At the end of this tour, Katrien was also very helpful in giving us general information such as eating places, travel directions etc.

Wir durften zu zweit an einer ganz tolle Führung von Amy teilnehmen. Sie hat uns ganz viel Wissenwertes und Spannedes über Anne, ihre Familie und Bekannte erzählt, Orte gezeigt und uns durch die Stadt geführt. Die 2 Stunden vergingen wie im Flug. Amy hat die Führung spannend gestaltet, durch ihre Fragen an uns hat sie uns zum mitdenken animiert. Wir durften viel neues lernen und sind wirklich begeistert von der schönen Tour. My guide was Petra, she was waiting at the meeting site when I arrived 15 minutes early, introduced herself and we chatted while we waited for one more person who ended up meeting us inside the museum. Petra was very professional yet made the tour very personal with her passion for the art and Van Gogh. Her explanations were thorough with loads of background info too.
