Covid-19 Update – 05.18.2021

We are back with an update on the Covid-19 measures in Amsterdam, since a lot has changed in the last few days. The government recently published a reopening plan to release the lockdown bit by bit. The first steps were taken on 28 April. In this blog we will explain the next steps, that will start from the 19th of May:

First, of course, the mask requirement and distance rules in public indoor spaces and transport remain. Outside, you should still only be with members of your household or one additional person. Since the covid-numbers allow it, the following businesses will open again from 19 May: Gyms, theatres, museums, cultural activities, amusement parks, zoos and sex establishments.

The curfew was removed from April 28. Restaurants, cafés and bars are partly allowed to reopen with the following restrictions: Guests are now allowed to sit on the terraces from 6am to 8pm; No more than four people of different households are allowed to sit at a table; Guests are only allowed to go inside to pay or to use the toilet. Delivery and pick-up services will continue.

From now on not only supermarkets, drugstores and pharmacies are open as usual, but also all other shops, such as clothes-shops. Be aware that you might have to stand in a queue when entering a shop.

Furthermore, the following changes are being discussed at the press conferences: The Netherlands wants to publish a list of countries for which travel from and to the Netherlands is to be allowed again without measures. Furthermore, a so-called “Green Pass” is to be introduced, which vaccinated or immunized people are to receive. With this passport or a negative PCR test, travel should also be possible again without quarantine.
